Getting to Madison

Madison's Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) is served by:

American Connection
American Eagle
Continental Express
Delta Air Lines
Midwest Connect
United Express

As of February 17, 2010, cities that have direct flights to Madison (MSN) are:

Chicago ORD (American Eagle and United Express)
Cincinnati CVG (Delta Air Lines)
Cleveland CLE (Continental Express)
Dallas-Fort Worth DFW (American Eagle)
Denver DEN (United Express)
Detroit DTW (Delta Air Lines)
Memphis MEM (Delta Air Lines)
Milwaukee MKE (Midwest Connect)
Minneapolis MSP (Delta Air Lines)
New York LGA (Delta Air Lines)
Newark EWR (Continental Express)
St Louis STL (American Connection)
Washington DCA (Delta Air Lines)

Several large airports are within a 2 - 2.5 hour drive. Another option would be to get a cheap flight directly to one of the airports listed below and then renting a car or catching a bus to Madison:

  • Milwaukee (MKE): 1.5 hours from Madison, larger than Madison, many more connections from other cities, served by same airlines as Madison, and starting Nov 2009, Southwest flies here, directly from Baltimore, Kansas City, Orland, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tampa. Also served by Air Tran.  Badger Bus connects Milwaukee’s Mitchell airport (MKE) with UW-Madison’s Memorial Union.
  • Rockford (RFD): a new airport about 1.5 hours, between O'Hare and Madison. Very limited service (Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Phoenix/Mesa, Ft. Myers, Myrtle Beach)  If you fly into RFD take a cab or otherwise get yourself to the Van Galder Bus terminal for transport to Madison.
  • Chicago O'Hare (ORD): 2.25 - 2.5 hours – Van Galder Bus has excellent service between O’Hare and UW-Madison’s Memorial Union.
  • Chicago Midway (MDW) in center of Chicago (services by Southwest and Frontier): 2.5 - 3 hours depending on traffic – Van Galder Bus also as excellent service between Midway and UW-Madison’s Memorial Union.

International travelers will probably enter or connect through Minneapolis (MSP), Detroit (DTW) or Chicago (ORD)
