Geoclub has enjoyed another year of picnics, fieldtrips and fun. In 1999 the department banquet coincided with the sesquicentennial alumni reunion. This provided a great opportunity for faculty, students and alumni to socialize at the banquet and picnic. The spring picnic was well attended and good weather provided a chance to play catch and catch-up at Olin Park.
The 1999 elucidator Wes Dripps held his second (!) illustrative portrayal of life in the geology department at the spring elucidation. Scandalous stories and incriminating photos galore were shamelessly aired to the delight of the audience.
On September 11th Jade Star Lackey led the incoming graduate students on a field trip up to Wausau, Wisconsin. Many aspects of geology were covered during the trip, including a rare "geophysics stop."
Westmoreland Park was the host to 1999 Fall Picnic on September 17th. We had beautiful weather for frisbee and lots of grilled brats and corn.
Geoclub bowling made a triumphant return during 1999. The "Strikin’ Dips" won and defended their intradepartmental title in two seasons. Not to be upstaged, the Geological Engineering undergraduates pulled together a squad that dispatched both grad student teams.
The holiday party rounded out year with good cheer and the arrival of Yaron Katzir, a post doctoral fellow in John Valley’s Lab. Santa (Brad Singer) his elves (Kristin Anderson and Megan Mandernach) were on hand to give out presents to all the good boys and girls.

Geoclub was fortunate to have the support of Kurt Zeiler (vice president), Anne Taunton (treasurer), Ann Dansart (soda tzar), Jade Star Lackey (field trip coordinator), Maitri Venkat-Ramani (secretary) and Cheryl Buchwald (undergrad representative) without whom Geoclub activities would not be possible.
