Sample mount for ion microprobe measurements of foraminiferal shells. Approximately 130 specimens are arranged within the inner 10 mm of a 25 mm epoxy mount and cast with three grains of calcite standard in the center. The epoxy mount is cut to ~5 mm thickness, ground, polished, and gold-coated.

Round cut from a thin section for use in the ion microprobe.  Standards (garnet and quartz) are embedded in a polished billet near minerals of interest before being made into a thin section.  Finished thin section is cut by hand into a 25 mm-diameter round.  The standards and mineral of interest lie within the interior 10 mm.
