INSTALLATION OF THE IMS-1280: ASSEMBLY, WIRING, TESTING

At the end of the first week, the main body of the mass spectrometer, electronic units and a computer were in place. The second week, vacuum, water, and gas lines were connected, power was provided, and we started pumping down the instrument. The 1280 was then tested for basic performance, including primary beam stability, mass resolution, etc. On April 9th, (2005) the laboratory hosted an open house associated with the oldest 4.4 Ga Zircon display in the Geology Museum.
