PCR Programs and Services

PCR’s Environmental Program

Responsible for the development of Good Neighbor Committee with the Ford Motor’s Chicago Assembly Plant in 1997.

Conducts workshops on environmental lead hazards in homes, schools and workplaces.  Strong emphasis on tenant-to-tenant lead awareness, prevention and intervention techniques.

Licensed Provider with the state of Illinois Residential Lead-Based Paint Abatement Training for workers and lead refresher trainings.

Worked with the 5th District Cook County Commissioner Office on Indoor Air Quality in schools and homes. 

Conducted pediatric asthma surveys to be analyzed by the physicians from Cook County and Provident Hospitals.

Conducts Toxic Tours of the Lake Calumet Industrial corridors for special interest groups, organizations and schools.

Works in partnership with other environmental groups to promote pollution prevention technologies with area’s industrial businesses.

Works in partnership with environmental justice organizations throughout the United States to form the National Black Environmental Economic Network and the People for Color Environmental Justice Summit II.
 

Economic Development Program

Life Skills Enhancement Program is designed to teach clients how to prepare resumes, interview techniques, and conduct skill assessment to help identify what jobs fits their skills.

Job Referral—refers clients to jobs with local environmental and general construction contractors.

Provide referral services to clients who want to start a construction business to the Small Contractor Network.
 

Housing Program

Partnership with housing advocacy groups on tenant rights issues.

Provide technical assistance on tenant grievance process in public housing.

Conducts tenant rights workshops with the Metropolitan Tenant Organization and the Legal Foundation of Chicago.

Monitor the progress of the CHA’s Transformation Plan for Altgeld Gardens.

Attend meeting with other housing groups on affordable housing issues.
 

PCR’s Services

Service Site with the Community Economic Development Association for the Low-Income Household Energy Assistance Program.

Distributes sex safe materials to clients to increase community awareness about sexual transmitted diseases and AIDS.

Sponsored the Altgeld’s Youth Traveling Basketball Team know as the Gators.

Sponsored the Young Women of the Future Mentoring Program in conjunction with the Mayor’s Youth Net Program.
