Saddle
the Sloth
To the tune of “Happy Together” by the
Turtles

Note: The Turtles are best known for their 1967 #1 hit,
“Happy Together”, but that is only one song in an impressive body
of work. From good-timey pop to
psychedelia to folk-rock, this was a band with both the ambition to explore
many different styles of music and the talent to pull it off.
Because our own experiences
together in our van, both the enthusiasm of this song and generally good feeling
of the Turtles inspired us. Our
song came naturally to us as we artistically explored topics of the Pleistocene.
Me and You and You and Me
No matter how you nap the chert, it had
to be
Out hunting megafauna oh so merrily
Except for the weather
Please make me a sweater
We built our house on a nice moraine
It had a great view of an outwash plain
And on the other side some hummocky
terrain
So happy together
Except for the saber-toothed tiger
Oh that ice sheet’s advancing a
little too fast
Run for your life!
Grab the clubs and furs and saddle the
sloth
We’re on our way
We’re sick of moving with each
advance
But we need to live where there are some
greener plants
We think the Driftless Area is our last
chance
We hope it’s forever
So happy together
La la la la la la la la la la la
Saddle the sloth
La la la la la la la la la la la
Saddle the Sloth [fading]
