“King Dave of the Ice Layer”

Composed by: Chris Bareither and Chapin Storrar

April 24, 2005

Sung to the TV show tune of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

This is the story of about how the ice changed land to what we see now,
So I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell all
about King Dave and his ice layer

The Green Bay Lobe, Laurentide raised
Lake Oshkosh formed through its recessional days
Warmin’ up, meltin’, Mickelson says
Drumlins form in transitional beds

The Lake Michigan Lobe which was up to no good
Started pushing ice in the neighborhood
They got in one little merge, and it messed up their game
And what was left, it was the Kettle Moraine

Outwash plains are flat with a kettle here and there
Striating bedrock, while scrapin’ it bare
It seems that the students understand it quite clear
But we always hear, “It’s presumably hummocky there”

Dave knows a lot about rocks and wears a pok-a-dot hat
He’s retiring now, gonna drink some beer and relax
But look out you rookies tryin’ to steal his crown
Where the ice man commeth, Dave can be found
