Interglacial Blues

(To the tune of "Folson Prison Blues," Johnny Cash)

  Anders Carlson

2/2/01 from fall field trip, October 2000

  I here the glacier coming

  It's coming round the bend

But I ain't seen no dryas

  Since I don't know when

  I'm stuck in interglacial

  And time keeps dragging on

When I hear the ice a cracking

I hang my head and cry

When I was just a baby

  My momma told me "son

  Your gonna study glaciers

  Don't ever play with estimations"

But I questioned a man at GSA

  Just to put him down

When I hear the glacier calving

My paper work makes me frown

  I bet there's a glaciologist

  Sittin on the ice

  I bet he's drillin cores

And looking at a cross sectional slice

I know I had it coming

  I know I can't be free

  And all this paper work

  Is what tortures me

If they freed from this office

If that super cub was mine

  Bet I'd fly on down

  To a glacier flow line

  Far from office politics

That's where I want to stay

And I'd let that glacier terminus

  Wash my blues away
