THE
GLACIAL GEOLOGIST
On a cold spring morning
At the Valders quarry,
We dug into the sand
Looking for organics.
So we took turns digging
And we found some little black leaves.
The Australian found some ice casts
And
he said to me...
Chorus: 1st time
The next time I saw Valders
I was sitting in the lab room,
Looking at a quad
And staring at the clock.
The correlated section
Was giving me a headache.
So I asked my T.A.
And Roland said to me...
Chorus: 2nd time
The last time I saw Valders
Was when I took the final.
I had a nagging question,
I didn't know what to do.
So I raised my hand
To get my prof's attention.
Dave Mickelson came over
And gave me this clue.
He said, "Son, I've spent a lifetime
Out of reading glacial fabric,
Looking
at striations, sorting diamictons..."
And as his voice droned into vagueness
I couldn't comprehend him,
So I went back to my seat
And the answer came to me...
Chorus: 2nd time
1st
Chorus
You
got to know when it's Valders,
Know
when it's Two Creeks,
Know
when it's Ozaukee,
Know
when it's mud.
You
never date your carbon
While
you're digging in the field.
There'll be time enough for dating
When the field trip's done.
2nd Chorus
You got to know when it's Valders
Know
when it's Two Creeks,
Know when it's Ozaukee,
Know
when it's mud.
You never count your pebbles
While you're digging in the field.
There'll
be time enough for counting
When
the field trip's done.
