Pinnacle Node 5
This stop is near the south side of the loop road and is topographically the highest of the 7 nodes making up this tour. To the northwest a prominent bright white sand dune stretches across the horizon - this younger white dune system, being formed today, is in stark contrast to the brownish-yellow sands of the Pinnacles Desert and the Tamala Limestone. To the west white breakers can be seen in the Indian Ocean. Vegetation on the hill to the south of the camera has helped stabilize the surface and only the very tops of pinnacles can be seen. To the east a sandy, pinnacle-less area extends for hundreds of meters. In the midst of this sand plain sit two erosional remnant hills, stabilized by vegetation but under constant attack by the wind.
