Our club is far younger than its subject matter, having been founded in 2001 as a group that discussed papers about paleontology. The Paleontology Club at the University of Wisconsin-Madison registered as a student organization in 2002. Since then, we have met every other week during the fall and spring semesters.
The Paleoclub’s activities are varied. We discuss research, ideas, and discoveries from paleontology. We enjoy field trips, both to museums, where we often get a behind-the-scenes tour of the collections, and to fossil collecting sites. In 2004 and 2005, we founded and hosted MSSPR, the Midwest Symposium of Student Paleontologic Research, for students around the Midwest to present the results of their fossil investigations.
Are you a student who wants to study fossils? Or, are you not a student, but would like to learn more about this subject? Don’t know much about fossils, but curious about life of the past? Feel free to join us at a meeting or event!
