UW Madison Electron Microprobes Calendars

As of early 2015, we have two CAMECA electron microprobes in Weeks Hall, available to microanalytical use by both campus and off-campus users. The SX51 is a W-filmament with a old-school SiLi-EDS, whereas the SXFive is a field emission instrument, with SDD EDS as well as 6 Large Area pseudocrystals. Both instruments have similar crystal spectrometer configurations. We are phasing in the new instrument, which has its unique features, one being a very powerful (compact) beam which can damage some specimens. The beam can be defocused, which defeats some of its advantage of having a much smaller 'spot' size. We hope to develop some measures to mitigate the behavior upon some specimens.
