Holly Schultz is examining the taphonomic condition of Chione cancellata valves from both major paleocommunities. We are interested to see if there are taphofacies correlated with the defined paleocommunities.
We examined two Chione cancellata samples from each paleocommunity (circled above).We examined whole shells and shell fragments which include the hinge.
We quantified loss of both shell weight (a measure of loss of shell material lost through breakage, dissolution, and abrasion) and shell area (measuring the amount of shell breakage) using digital image analysis techniques.
