    What are the names of the Olivine endmember minerals?

    Forsterite (Mg) and Fayalite (Fe)

     

  3. What types of igneous rocks is olivine commonly found in?

Basalt, gabbro, dunite, peridotite etc

 

Are igneous rocks containing both olivine and quartz common? Explain.

No. Any melt that will crystallize quartz will have had time to react with Olivine to form Pyroxene.

 

3) What is the difference between porphyritic and brecciated textures?

 

Porphyritc texture has large crystals that grew in the rock

Brecciated texture is more like a sedimentary rock, a collection of fragments that have been fused together
