Read Chapter 5 in textbook - become familiar with terminology, types of volcanoes, their settings, what determines their explosiveness, typical volcanic hazards, benefits of volcanism, and the range in sizes of volcanic eruptions.


Use of Case Study - Volcan Colima - to study volcanism and its hazards.


Volcanism - Outflow of magma (melted rock) onto the earth's surface.
