Format:
Two lectures per week and 1 discussion. Lectures will supplement text, not duplicate it. Some materials covered in lecture will not be covered in textbook. Please attend the lectures and read the assigned material BEFORE lectures. Discussions will supplement the lectures and will be used to discuss homework assignments.
Grading:
Exams will be mostly multiple choice and short answer. Make-up exams are not given. If you miss an exam for a legitimate reason, you may with the consent of one of the faculty write a paper to replace the missing grade. Such a paper will be substituted for your lowest exam grade. Papers must follow the guidelines provided and must cover a topic that includes both geology and an environmental issue. All work must be done independently unless otherwise specified. If you wish to write a paper, please ask the instructor for a copy of the guidelines. Each exam will be given a number grade and the grade distribution will be posted. Final grades will be curved based on the final number of points. Six and 12 week exams will cover the material covered up to that time, and are not cumulative. The final exam will be 1/3 cumulative.
