RESEARCH
Investigation and characterization of volcanic seismicity and seismo-acoustic
signals: VLP signals associated with Strombolian eruptions at Mount Erebus,
Antarctica; LP and hybrid signals associated with summit dome growth and magma
movement at Soufriere Hills Volcano, Montserrat; syn-eruptive seismicity at
Redoubt, Turrialba, Pichincha and other volcanoes.
Characterization of fine structure and fault/fracture patterns at geothermal
and oil/gas reservoirs using injection-related seismicity and precise relocation
methods; investigation of other induced seismicity and glacial seismicity.
Development and application of signal processing methods - waveform
cross-correlation, adaptive coherency filtering, eigenspectral and
wavelet-based analysis - for precise phase repicking in digital waveform
catalogues, to improve relative and absolute hypocenter locations.
Investigation of different methods for event discrimination and classification, including spectral signatures,
phase coherency, cross-correlation
relationships, scanning correlation detector characterization and artificial neural
networks.
modelling using large refraction transect in Alaska; volcanic structures modelled both with refraction an
d tomographic methods; regional scale modelling
undertaken by application of various forward and inverse methods; improving
station corrections for ground-truth enhancement and improved catalogue
locations.
