Photography plays an important role in geologic illustration,
and efforts to improve one's skills at the craft pay off in many ways.
Effective communication of ideas, illustration of geologic features and
processes all require good composition, proper exposure, good photographic
equipment, and the ability to recognize and capture a scene on film. The
results can be useful for scientific illustration, an aesthetically pleasing
shot, or simply a record of the moment.
Thumbnail photos below reflect a number of my favorite shots taken
on various geologic field trips, in the conduct of research, on vacation,
or whenever I happened to have my camera nearby and loaded with film when
the moment arrived.
