Cavosie Genealogy

Part I- The Roots: Cavosi in the Old World

Cavosi is a named shared by many families, and has it roots in the Val di Non, a beautiful mountain valley in the Trentino region of northern Italy that contains many small villages. During the ongoing quest to trace my ancestry back I have learned that Cavosi's came from the towns of Sfruz, Smarano, Spormaggiore, and perhaps other villages in the valley. I'll refer to these folks as Italians, but when my great-grandparents came over they identified themselves as Austrians. I think the best term is probably Tyrolian, but I'll keep it simple and call them Italians for the most part.

I've found records for many more Cavosis than I can currently trace, so I've broken this page up and provided links to lists of Cavosi's from specific villages. My relatives are most directly from Sfruz, but then again these villages may been 'cross pollinating' for centuries. Who knows what this will turn up?

Cavosis from Sfruz, Italy (1741-1922: 14 individuals so far, 13 to America)

Cavosis from Smarano, Italy (1892-1924: 8 individuals so far, 8 to America)

Cavosis from Spormaggiore, Italy (1778-1923: 20 individuals so far, 6 to America)
