Cavosie Genealogy

Branch I: Anselmo Cavosi (Simon, Samuel Cavosie in America) (1873-1970)

Anselmo was the oldest brother, and also the first to arrive in the 'New World' (1890). By at least 1900 he was living in Cohoes, NY, as he filled out the first US Census data I have found for him. He was married to a woman named Orcilla (surname unknown) who was from Italy, and immigrated in 1877. As for historical records, I do not have a birth certificate yet for Anselmo. I do have US census data for the city of Cohoes in Albany Cty, NY for 1900, 1910, and 1920 for his family (see below). It has taken a while to unravel this record because several members of his family have multiple spellings, but all their ages and dates are identical. See for yourself.

1900 US census data collected in June, in Cohoes (Albany Cty), NY. You can see Anselmo lists his name as Samuel Cavosie, and Katherine is spelled with a 'K', not a 'C'. Also, the number of years married (column 10) as of June 1900 is listed at 6, which means that would have happened around 1893 or 1894. Their address (on the left margin) is on Johnston Ave.

1910 US census data collected on April 21, in Cohoes (Albany Cty), NY. This census lists Anselmo Cavosie, and Catherine is spelled differently. Also note the spelling of his wifes name, Orcilla. My wife (who is Medietrranean) tells me the correct pronunciation would be 'Or-chee-la'. As of April 1910 they had been married for 17 years (column 9). See also their other children, all five lived at home.

1920 US census data collected on Jan. 9th, in Cohoes (Albany Cty), NY. This census lists Simon Cavosi, and yet a different spelling of his wifes name. By this time Mary wasn't living at home anymore. This census also lists Anselmo's year of immigration (column 13) as 1890. This agress with other independent lines of evidence.

Children of Anslemo and Orcilla:

(1) Mary Cavosie (1894- 19??).

(2) Catherine Cavosie (1898 +/- 1 - 19??).

(3) Edward A. Cavosie (1902-1993). Married a woman named Rena (surname unknown, from NY) in 1922. They had (at least) one child, Joyce (1927- ).

(4) Margaret Cavosie (1904- 1989). At the time of her death her surname was Roberts. She died in Riverside, CA.

(5) Anna Cavosie (1909- 19??).
