BP Research assistantships

The Department of Geoscience pleased to announce the availability of a new program of graduate research assistantships, funded by BP. These will be awarded based on a combination of outstanding academic credentials and industry-oriented career plans. Applicants should include a statement describing their future career plans, and in particular information concerning any coursework, employment, or other activities that help to demonstrate their sincere interest in industry employment.

In addition to a stipend for the academic year (9 months), the RA carries a summer stipend, which is not normally covered, for example, in Teaching Assistantship appointments.


Joint BP-UW Minority Research Assistantship

BP and the Department of Geoscience are pleased to offer a Research Assistantship. The RA is intended for an incoming student who comes from a cultural or ethnic group that is under-represented in earth science, and intends to pursue graduate studies in any field of geology, geophysics, or geological engineering.

Applicants should include a statement describing their future career plans, and in particular information concerning any coursework, employment, or other activities that help to demonstrate their sincere interest in industry employment.

UW and Petroleum Industry Careers

UW-Madison has a long and rich history of training future petroleum industry geoscientists, at both the MS and PhD levels. Our graduates are highly sought-after, and many have risen to upper level management and technical positions in industry. Our petroleum industry alumni are very actively involved in and supportive of the Department of Geoscience. On-campus recruitment has been very active, and our graduates have an excellent placement record.
