Research

My research program focuses on Archean and Proterozoic gold, nickel and platinum group element (PGE) deposits and the uses and abuses of fluid inclusions in natural materials. Current ongoing field-based projects are located in Western Australia, Minnesota, California, and South Africa. Laboratory work includes fluid inclusion observations, electron microprobe and stable isotope analyses, infrared spectroscopy and most recently the magnetic properties of mafic igneous rocks.

Teaching

I teach a variety of courses including Introductory Geology, Field Mapping, Mineralogy and Petrology, Mineral Deposits and a resource course for non-geologists - Minerals as a Public Problem. About every 2 years I co-teach a course on Resources from Space.
