UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS DARTMOUTH ----- Marine
Environmental Change Biogeochemist: The School for Marine Science and
Technology (SMAST) invites applications for a tenure track/tenured position
at the Assistant Professor to Full Professor level. The incumbent will
develop a state-of-the-art research program in marine biogeochemistry
emphasizing environmental/climate change phenomena. Research should focus
on biogeochemical processes and phenomena influencing the oceanic carbon
cycle and atmospheric CO2 on time scales from the modern to late
Quaternary, including focus on the coastal zone. Use of the
state-of-the-art, light stable isotope laboratory at SMAST in this research
is encouraged though other observational/experimental approaches (e.g.
radioisotope, organic biomarker, trace metal) where relevant may be
acceptable. Required experience is as follows: Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. in an appropriate field and preferably postdoctoral experience and
multiple publications in peer reviewed literature; Associate Professor:
extensive publication list and a record of externally funded research; Full
Professor: international recognition as an accomplished

Petrology/Mineralogy ----- The Geology Department invites applications for
a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor beginning July

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL ------- Earth Surface
Chronology ----- The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications
for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to
begin July 1, 2005. Seek applicants who pursue research in
near-surface processes through low-temperature or cosmogenic chronometry.
The successful applicant will use chronologic methods to quantify the
timing and rates of tectonic, geomorphologic, sedimentologic,
climatic/oceanographic, hydrologic or biologic events and processes.
Interested in candidates who use absolute dating techniques to decipher
exhumation history, land-surface evolution, sediment transport and
deposition, or high-resolution stratigraphy. Applicants must hold a
Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and postdoctoral and teaching experience
is highly desirable. Applicants must submit a letter of application,

UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO ----- Post-doc Position / Ion Microprobe Lab/
Institute of Meteoritics. ----- The Institute of Meteoritics (IOM) invites
applications for a post-doctoral researcher to participate in planetary
research projects concerning the geochemical evolution of the Moon and
Mars. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary
research team utilizing microbeam major element and trace element data to
better understand the evolution of lunar basalts and the evolution of
interiors of the Moon and Mars. The candidate will also participate in the
continued growth of the IOM ion microprobe laboratory. Seek a candidate
with expertise in the analysis of planetary materials using both the ion
microprobe and electron microprobe. A Ph.D. in geochemistry,
cosmochemistry, planetary sciences, or related fields must be in hand
before Feb. 1, 2005. Previous experience with planetary materials is
desirable but not required. However, a high level of knowledge of
SIMS techniques is a firm requirement. Starting date in early 2005 is
somewhat flexible. The appointment is initially for 1 year with the
possibility of renewal up to 3 years depending on performance and

1). Near-surface Geophysicist ----- Field oriented geophysicist
with interests in geological hazards, neotectonics and fluvial, coastal and
near shore processes. Expected to teach courses in introductory
geophysics and geophysical data analysis as well as grad courses in field
of expertise. Post-doctoral experience especially desirable.
2). Geomicrobiologist ----- Strong interests in coastal and
oceanic environments. In particular seek applicants who work on the
application of molecular techniques to develop a better understanding of
one or more of the following areas of global biogeochemical cycling:
trace gas fluxes, microbial elemental cycling, microbe/sediment
interactions, environmental effects of microbial processes or biofilms.

at the assistant professor level. Particularly interested in
individuals who combine observational, theoretical, experimental and/or
analytical techniques to address problems of lithospheric
deformation. Strong record of scholarship and the potential for

position. Broad interests in crustal and surface processes, should
