Research Centers program aims to expand undergraduate research to
include first-and second-year college students and to enhance the
research capacity, infrastructure and culture of participating
institutions. Research should be in the chemical sciences or in

UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT ------ The Department of Geology invites
applications for a one- year appointment as a Lecturer beginning in August
2005. Teaching responsibilities include Structural Geology (Spring
2006), introductory level Environmental Geology (Fall, 2005) and
Introduction to Earth System Science (Spring, 2006). All courses
include labs with graduate student Teaching Fellows. Applicants
are expected to have a PhD, however qualified ABDs will also be

NATURAL RESOURCE TECHNOLOGY, INC. (NRT) is seeking entry level
environmental science professionals to join consulting practice.
These positions will involve conducting field investigations and
assignments to support environmental site characterizations, feasibility
studies and remedial design projects. The successful candidates will
have the opportunity to develop skills in data analysis, modeling, report
writing, design and project management aspects of environmental
projects. Positions require an MS in Geology, Hydrogeology or related
field. Candidates should have 0-3 years of related experience.
Prior experience with soil sampling, borings and well installation is a

availability of a postdoctoral fellowship. The appointment is two

Postdoctoral Research Position in Stable Isotopes &
Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions. Available for a person with a PhD
in Biology, Biogeochemistry, Ecology, Forest Science or related
disciplines. The successful applicant will take part in field and lab work,
data analysis, and report writing for studies of the influence of ecosystem
photosynthesis and respiration on the stable isotope composition of
atmospheric CO2. Field work will be conducted at selected study sites
across Canada as part of the Fluxnet-Canada network (http://www.fluxnet-canada.ca). The duties of the
post doc include: (1) collection of atmospheric (flask), plant and soil
samples for stable isotope analysis using a gas isotope ratio mass
spectrometer with continuous flow interfaces; (2) analysis of stable
isotope data in conjunction with ecosystem eddy flux data, chamber flux
data and other atmospheric measurements; and (3) publishing research
findings in peer reviewed journals. To apply, please send a cover

RUTGERS UNIVERSITY ----- Post Doctoral Research Associate for Laser
Based Isotope Analysis Program. Instrumentation and techniques for
laser based isotope ratio analysis of carbon dioxide have been developed at
Rutgers University. Applications in atmospheric science, such as eddy
covariance studies, and biomedical science such as 14C labeled drug
metabolism studies, are being pursued with US government and industrial
funding. One or two post doctoral positions are available for
individuals with interest in joining this program. Experience with
laser spectroscopy, isotope ratio analysis, sample handling (GC,LC,EA)
and/or digital signal processing desirable. Applicants holding an
advanced degree in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Biological
Science with knowledge, interest and experience in the relevant science and
technology are encouraged to apply. The appointments will be for one
year renewal up to three years. Considerable research freedom will be
