GEOCLUB The annual Spring Banquet will be held on April 20th in conjunction with the Board of Visitors' Meeting.  Details to follow.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE -- DETAILS AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE and ON THE INTERNETUniversity of Stratclyde ----- University of Glasgow ------ Two post doctoral research positions.  The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and the Department of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow invite applications for 2 post-doctoral research assistants to work on the simultaneous development of seismicity and permeability in basement-hosted faults. These posts are funded by a NERC grant awarded to Dr Becky Lunn and Dr Zoe Shipton. Require: (1) a numerical modeller; and (2) a structural geologist, to work closely together as part of a multidisciplinary team investigating the coupled effects of fault growth, fluid flow and seismicity. These positions offer the opportunity to integrate structural and seismological analyses with state of the art mechanical and flow modelling to address processes of fault architectural development and the development of fault strength and permeability.  Please contact Zoe Shipton (zoe.shipton@ges.gla.ac.uk) or Rebecca Lunn (rebecca.lunn@strath.ac.uk) for further details and see http://www.ges.gla.ac.uk/faff for details of the research team. Closing date for applications is the 23rd April.
Post 1: a three-year position at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, will involve numerical modelling using an existing dynamic fracture propagation code, development of the code and seismological analysis of a suite of micro-earthquakes. Experience in numerical modelling and/or seismology and a proven track record of interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches are required.  Applicants should see http://www.mis.strath.ac.uk/Personnel/open/r242007.htm for further details of post 1 and University of Strathclyde application forms.
Post 2: a two-year position at the Department of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow, will involve structural mapping and characterisation of basement hosted faults and numerical modelling of the effect of host rock anisotropy. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in fault processes and fluid flow, and an aptitude for interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches.  Applicants should see http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/humanresources/recruit/23apr_13155.htm for further details of post 2 and University of Glasgow application forms.

Eastern Illinois University ------  One Year Replacement Position in Sedimentology/Stratigraphy ----- The Department of Geology/Geography invites applications for an annually contracted faculty in geology to begin 16 August 2007.  The successful candidate will have a primary expertise in sedimentary geology.  A strong background in sedimentation and stratigraphy and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research in soft-rock geology are required.  Ph.D., or ABD, strongly encouraged by time of appointment.  Additional interest and expertise in teaching historical geology or summer field geology is encouraged.  This position has the potential of becoming a tenure-track position in 2008-2009. Send a letter of application that includes teaching philosophy/research experience, research interests, curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and copies of undergraduate/graduate transcripts by 10 May 2007.  All material should be submitted electronically to Dr. John Paul Stimac, jpstimac@eiu.edu

The French CNRS is looking for applicants for a 1 year post doc position at IPGP ( http://www.ipgp.jussieu.fr)  starting between the 1 of September 2007 and the 1 of January 2008.  The candidate must have had a strong experience with conventional stable isotope analyses:  gas purification using vacuum lines and gas chromatography and mass spectrometer measurements.  Experience with chlorine or sulfur isotopes and with ICP-MS will be favored as well as some knowledge about fluid-rock interactions in sedimentary basins.  Candidates must fill the application form that must be downloaded from the CNRS web site  ( https://www2.cnrs.fr/DRH/post-docs07/?pid=8&lang=en) and send it along with a CV to Alain Prinzhofer and/or Magali Ader  before the 30th of April  (if the position is not filled then, applications received until the end of May might be considered).
