NORMAN H. FOSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ---- The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists Foundation.  Awarded annually to encourage and suppport creative research in applied petroleum geology by a graduate student.  Deadline for receipt of applications is March 31, 2004.  Applicant should have declared a principal research area in the Rocky Mountain Region including the Williston basin and eastern Nevada, related to petroleum geology.  For more information and an application check with Karen in the office (Room 236)

SOCIETY OF PETROPHYSICISTS & WELL LOG ANALYSTS FOUNDATION ----- Undergraduate scholarships.  Financial assistance to eligible and qualified recipients pursuing a degree program related to oil, gas or other mineral formation evaluation.  Awarded on a competitive basis taking into account academic achievement, career objectives and financial need.  Deadline for application is April 1, 2004.  More information and application forms available at: http://www.spwla.org or contact Frederick Paillet at FPAILLET@maine.edu or tel: 207-581-3393.

GEOSCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MINORITY STUDENTS FROM THE AMERICAN GEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE ---- Applications now due March 10, 2004.   The goal for this program is to maintain and increase the number of under-represented ethnic-minority students in the geosciences through financial support and mentoring opportunities.  Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.  Applicants must be a US Citizen, be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the US, have declared a major in a geoscience department, be a member of an ethnic minority, including Black, Hispanic, or Native American (American Indian, Eskimo, Hawaiian, or Samoan).  Applicants submit a completed application, which can be downloaded at http://www.agiweb.org/mpp/index.html  For more information, please visit http://www.agiweb.org/mpp/index.html, or email asm@agiweb.org.

THE MICHIGAN BASIN GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY (MBGS) is announcing the availability of Geology Scholarships to be awarded in May 2004.  Up to $500 in cash will be awarded to one or more applicants.  These scholarships will be broadly based on merit, need, relevance to the Michigan Basin, or relevance to current and future needs of society.  The MBGS is affiliated with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and uses their Grants-in-Aid form to review applications.  An application may be printed or filled out on-line at http://www.aapg.org/foundation/gia/forms.cfm.  Please disregard the deadline dates on that application page and DO NOT SUBMIT the application to AAPG.  Since this is an MBGS scholarship, not all portions of the form may be applicable.  Applications may be made to further specific graduate studies, undergraduate areas of study, field camp, or summer classes.  An endorsement of the Chairperson of the Department is not necessary but an endorsement of a geology professor is required (found at the end of the form).  Attachments may be added as needed.  Applications must be received by May 3, 2004.  Please mail application forms to:  Mr. Thomas Wellman ---- Geological and Land Management Division, DEQ ---- P.O. THE MINERAL PHYSICS INSTITUTE (MPI) AND THE CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MOLECULAR SCIENCE (CEMS) AT STONY BROOK ----- Summer research opportunities for undergraduates in the Physical and Environmental Sciences and Mathematics.  Selected students will receive a $3,500 stipend, a travel allowance of up to $600, and housing on the University campus.  Currently soliciting student applications and expect to begin making offers around March 31, 2004. The students will spend ten weeks working with the faculty and will experience most of the fundamental elements of academic research. Students who are willing to pay tuition may earn up to 6 credits of Stony Brook University upper-level research.
