ERNEST F. HOLLINGS UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is
accepting applications for a scholarship program in honor of retired SC
Senator Ernest F. Hollings who promoted ocean and atmospheric study and
research throughout his career. This is the third year the scholarship is
being made available to students interested in pursuing degrees in ocean
and atmospheric sciences and education. The 2007 NOAA
Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program will provide over 100 college
undergraduates up to $29,000 to further their academic studies related to
NOAA science, research, technology, policy, management, and education
activities; and to offer a related summer internship designed to provide
a "hands-on," multi-disciplinary training experience. Applications will
be accepted through February 9, 2007. The Hollings scholarship
program will provide selected undergraduate students with awards that
include academic assistance for full-time study during their junior and
senior years; a 10-week, full-time internship position during the summer
at a NOAA facility. Applications for the Hollings Scholarship

I thought I would send this along to you in case you know of any grad
students who will be graduating/dropping out this spring and want to stay
in Madison. My office has a job vacancy posted right
now. The job is full-time in downtown Madison using science
and I love it! The application is due January 31, 2007, but the job
would probably have a summer start date. The job has the posted
title of Nuclear Engineer, but a solid background in science (geology
included!) is all that is required. I didn't know anything about
health physics when I applied! If you know of anyone who might be
interested, please pass my name along. I would be happy to answer
any questions about what the job entails, Megan Shober --- Email
