Mary P. Anderson, Ph.D., editor-in-chief of the journal, Ground Water, has received the 2009 Keith E. Anderson Award from the National Ground Water Association.

The award is presented for outstanding contributions to NGWA by the Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers, which is a membership division of NGWA.

Among other contributions to the association, Anderson is in her ninth year as editor of Ground Water.

"She has done an exceptional job in building, maintaining, and improving the quality of our journal and the respect that it gets within the scientific and engineering community," said nominator Leonard Konikow of the U.S.
Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia. "She has a very helpful, progressive, and positive attitude while clearly maintaining her own and the journal's scientific integrity."

She has served on the AGWSE Board of Directors (1980-1982) and is the 1992 recipient of NGWA's M. King Hubbert Award, which recognizes an individual's major science or engineering contributions to the knowledge of ground water research, technical papers, teaching, and practical applications. Currently, Anderson is the C.S. Slichter Professor (emeritus) in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The award will be presented at the 2010 Ground Water Summit in Denver, Colorado.
