JOB HUNT UPDATE!!!!
I have accepted a tenure-track teaching position at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (that's in Kutztown, Pennsylvania) starting in August of 2002.  My new contact information will be Department of Physical Sciences, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown, PA 19530, tindall@kutztown.edu.

BACKGROUND
- B.S. - Geology, The College of William and Mary in Virginia, 1995
- Ph.D. - Structure and Tectonics, The University of Arizona, 2000
- Visiting Assistant Professor, Geology Department, Middlebury College, 2000-01
- Postdoctoral Researcher, Geology and Geophysics, University of Wisconsin - Madison

RESEARCH INTERESTS
I'm fascinated by all aspects of structural geology and tectonics, but I'm particularly enthusiastic about using brittle structures (faults, joints, deformation band shear zones) as tools for analyzing major tectonic features and interpreting the movements that generated them.

I conduct much of my field work in northern Arizona and southern Utah because of the exquisite exposures of secondary structures in Colorado Plateau sandstones.  This spring I began mapping and interpreting normal faults associated with early stages of the Laramide orogeny, and investigating the effect of joints on permeability of sandstone reservoirs containing deformation band shear zones.

Meanwhile, back in Wisconsin, I had the pleasure of writing an introductory plate tectonics lab with Basil Tikoff for a lab manual that should be published sometime this year.  The lab makes use of interactive 3D computer visualizations and graphics designed by Paul Morin (U. Minnesota), Steve Reynolds (Arizona State), Tanya Atwater (UC Santa Barbara) and their many collaborators.

Visit my research page for photos, diagrams, and more detailed explanations of some of the things I'm working on.
