These programs are suitable for use as teaching aids in an undergraduate or graduate level structural geology course.
After downloading and expanding the archive, simply double-click on the .jar file. I have successfully tested them on Mac OS X and several Windows machines, but your mileage may vary. I hear that they run fine under Linux, as well.Shear Box 1.4.2 - Last Updated May 25, 2006
Simulates progressive shear on a box, displaying strain ellipse and material line rotation and deformation.Stress v. Strain 1.4.1 - Last Updated September 28, 2005
Simulates progressive shear on a box, displaying axes of "stress" (assuming a viscous medium) and finite strain.Strain Theory 1.2.5 - Last Updated November 18, 2005
Simulates progressive shear on a box, displaying strain ellipse, flow apophyses, infinitesimal strain axes, and finite strain axes.3D Strain 1.2.1 - Last Updated September 28, 2005
Simulates three-dimensional progressive general shear on a box.Flow Lines 1.6.1 - Last Updated September 28, 2005
Simulates progressive shear on a box, using flow lines to display the exact path of material points during deformation.Rotating Clasts 1.3.2 - Last Updated December 17, 2005
Simulates rotation of elliptical clasts under progressive shear conditions according to either Jeffery or March model rotation.Jeffery v. March 1.1.1 - Last Updated September 28, 2005
Simulates the rotation of elliptical clasts under conditions of progressive general shear, allowing for simultaneous comparison of Jeffery and March model rotation.Shear Fabric 1.2.1 - Last Updated September 28, 2005
Simulates rock fabric formation under progressive shear by translating and rotating elliptical clasts.
