Students who receive an excused absence from an exam or an exam grade equal to
or lower than a "D" may contact Professor DeMets to request an opportunity to
take a timed essay exam about several topics to be selected by Professor DeMets.
The grade for this written exam will replace the lowest midterm exam grade if it is
higher than the lowest midterm exam grade. Students may only elect this option for
one of the two midterm exams.
Procedure: Students who wish to take the essay exam must contact Professor DeMets no later than November 13,. Each student will be given several articles about one or more topics relevant to environmental geology. Students will then have until Monday, November 25 to read and study the assigned articles. From 8:00-9:30 AM on November 25, students will be asked to write several essays in response to questions about those topics while monitored by either the course TA or Professor DeMets. |
