Global warming has been a hot topic lately…
What does it have to do with our glacier friends?

It’s true, global warming has raised some concern for a few different reasons.  The implications of a warmer planet are not something to be taken lightly.  Simply put, global warming is causing glaciers to melt, and this melting is doing some damage.  What damage?  Well, sea levels are rising, more flooding is occurring, it is proposed that more infectious diseases will be contracted because of the spread of mosquitoes and other infected organisms that thrive in a warmer climates, droughts will increase in some places because of increased evaporation, more extreme weather will occur, and last but not least, glaciers will continue to melt (EPA website, 2004 and U.S. PIRG website, 2004).  Melting glaciers are definitely something to be concerned with because of the problems this situation is causing.  The meltdown causes significant rises in sea levels, affects those that depend on glaciers for drinking water and hydroelectric power, and is destroying habitats for many glacier living inhabitants (EPA website, 2004 and U.S. PIRG website, 2004).

Give me more details about the harm that melting glaciers can cause!
