Configuring Network Settings
Your computer's network settings will have to be properly configured in order to receive
an IP address. You will also need to join the GEOLOGY workgroup in order access various network resources.
Windows XP - TCP/IP Settings
- Open the "Network Connections" control panel.
- Double-click on "Local Area Connection".
- Click on the "Properties" button.
- Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" in the list that appears.
- Click on the "Properties" button.
- In the window that appears select "Obtain IP address automatically" and
"Obtain DNS server address automatically".
- Click "OK" and "Close" to exit the control panel.
Windows XP - Workgroup
- Open the "System" control panel.
- Click on the "Computer Name" control panel.
- Click on "Change".
- Select "Workgroup" and type in GEOLOGY without the quotes.
- Click "OK". Click "OK" on the two dialog boxes that appear.
- Click "OK" again and reboot your computer.
