Mac OSX - Add Printer
9/15/2006: Appletalk printing is no longer a reliable protocol for printing.

With OSX you have the option of several different protocols to use. Apple has introduced a new protocol (named Rendezvous under OSX.[123] and Bonjour under OSX.4 and OX.5 ). It is actually a variant of a protocol named multicast domain name service or mdns.

Only the newest printers in the department understand the mdns protocol. However, 90% of the printers in the department do understand IP printing.
Please change your Macintosh printer definitions to either Bonjour/Rendezvous or IP Printing.

Don't confuse the IP printing with the IPP printing protocol.

If "Print Using:" does not come up with a specific driver, you will need to download and install a driver from the links below before adding the printer.

Macintosh Printer definition installation files (Pre 10.4).
If the printer type or definition for the printer you are using is "Generic" you probably don't have the correct printer definition file installed on your computer.
